Alabama State University (ASU) has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Scout, a leading athlete-focused financial technology company, marking a major first for the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). This collaboration positions ASU as the first SWAC institution to offer its student-athletes access to Scout’s complete suite of financial empowerment and management tools.
Through the deal, every ASU student-athlete will now have access to:
- Revenue-sharing distribution technology designed to accommodate the evolving Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) landscape
- Cap management resources
- One-on-one financial literacy training tailored for athletes
- A secure mobile wallet app built to help players manage taxes, savings, LLC formation, and much more.
ASU Athletic Director Dr. Jason Cable underscored the move as a commitment to both innovation and student support. “As we enter the new landscape of Division 1 Athletics, it is important that we align with innovative partners that provide seamless solutions to student-athlete benefits. Scout is one of the best in the business in doing just that,” said Dr. Cable.
Head Football Coach Eddie Robinson Jr. echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the long-term value for student-athletes. “We want our guys to win on the field and in life. That means building a foundation they can carry with them for decades — and that’s exactly what Scout brings to the table.”
Michael Haddix, Scout’s CEO and Founder, highlighted the symbolic value of partnering with an HBCU like Alabama State, stating, “We look at NIL differently at Scout — for us, it means Name, Image… Lifetime.”
This partnership aims not only to deliver financial tools, but also to foster a culture of equity, access, and opportunity for athletes well beyond their years on campus. ASU’s adoption of the Scout platform demonstrates leadership in preparing student-athletes for success in all arenas, continuing its tradition as a proud and innovative member of the HBCU community.
