For the 19th consecutive year, Sacred Heart Preparatory (SHP) in Atherton, California, proudly continues its legacy as a powerhouse of youth athletic development, sending 23 student-athletes from the Class of 2025 to compete at the collegiate level across 14 different sports. With athletes committed to 18 different colleges, the SHP Gators exemplify the program’s dual commitment to high performance in sports and academic excellence.

This milestone caps off a remarkable year for SHP athletics, defined by a school-record eight Central Coast Section (CCS) titles, three NorCal championships, and 12 CCS Scholastic Team honors. These team and individual achievements underscore the effectiveness of SHP’s focus on performance-oriented training, skill development, and holistic athlete preparation.

Athletic Director Jason Armstrong praised the class, highlighting not only their talent but also their discipline and resilience, key factors in reaching the collegiate level. The athletes come from a variety of competitive sports environments, including baseball, boys’ and girls’ basketball, football, cross country, track and field, golf, lacrosse, soccer, water polo, and more, showcasing the depth and breadth of SHP’s sports ecosystem.

SHP’s baseball program, energized and competitive in the highly challenging PAL Bay Division, produced standouts like senior captain Daniel Gee and CCS Pitcher of the Year Devin Saltzgaber. Both have progressed to notable collegiate programs, backed by intensive training that emphasizes mechanics, strength conditioning, and mental toughness.

The football team’s success significantly contributes to the class’s collegiate commitments, boasting a recent CCS title and sending multiple athletes to prestigious programs such as Claremont McKenna and UCLA. Their preparation encapsulates modern sports performance principles including strength and agility training, injury prevention, and tactical game intelligence.

In individual sports such as cross country and track and field, athletes like Sophie Cheung embody commitment to performance metrics and consistent improvement by setting multiple school records and qualifying repeatedly for the state meet. Her progression reflects an emphasis on endurance training, biomechanical efficiency, and recovery science—all hallmarks of SHP’s training philosophy.

The SHP lacrosse teams’ accomplishments, including a top state ranking and NCAA-bound players, highlight the effectiveness of skill development and competitive training schedules that prepare athletes to excel at the next level, while maintaining academic rigor.

This collective success story from SHP serves as a model for youth sports programs prioritizing a comprehensive approach to athlete development—integrating physical conditioning, skill advancement, sports psychology, and academic support. As these young athletes move to collegiate ranks, they carry forward lessons of discipline, perseverance, and athletic excellence nurtured throughout their SHP tenure.
